ConnectWise to Demo Android Control App at Google I/O Developer Sandbox 2010

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Professional Service Automation software developer ConnectWise (www.connectwise.com) will be demonstrating a version of ConnectWise Mobile for the Android operating system and software stack at Google I/O 2010 (code.google.com/events/io/2010) this week.

Among all smartphone OS handsets sold in the US in the first quarter of 2010, Android phones ranked second in terms of sales, behind BlackBerry devices and ahead of the iPhone, according to figures form the NPD group.

According to ConnectWise’s Wednesday announcement, a limited demo version of ConnectWise for the Android v 2.1 is available at the Google Apps Marketplace, and will be showcased at Google’s Developer Sandbox at Google I/O 2010 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, May 19 and 20. ConnectWise will also be showcasing its integration with Google Calendar sync, Gmail and Google Docs.

The ConnectWise Mobile add-on provides field engineers instant access to contacts, tickets and configurations without having to open their laptops, making it much easier and faster to manage accounts as well as keep tickets and time up-to-date. ConnectWise also recently released an iPhone application. Unlike web-based versions of the control panel, the special mobile apps use local data storage, so users can work on ConnectWise even when not connected to the Internet.

The Developer Sandbox features more than 100 developers that have built applications based on technologies and products featured at I/O. With its participation in the Google I/O Enterprise POD, ConnectWise said it will be on hand to demonstrate its Android application, discuss how the company uses the Google Web Toolkit to help build its community platform and to embed Google Apps into its business operating system.

The ConnectWise Mobile add-on gives users the power of ConnectWise anytime, anywhere from the palm of their hands. Field engineers have instant access to contacts and tickets and without having to open their laptops. ConnectWise Mobile enables real-time mobile collaboration by arming sales and technical staff with up-to-the-minute work schedules, service tickets and timesheets via their Android mobile devices.

“Our commitment to providing our partners with the tools to manage and grow their businesses — anytime, anywhere — is a testimonial to our leadership in developing powerful IT tools that enable service providers to enhance their operation efficiency, achieve greater accountability and attain maximum profitability,” ConnectWise chief executive officer Arnie Bellini said in a statement. “We expect there to be a lot of interest in our Android app within the Google Marketplace.”

Earlier this month, online backup and recovery provider VaultLogix (www.dataprotection.com) completely integrated its unique backup service with ConnectWise, enabling MSPs, VARs, and IT consultants to easily implement and manage VaultLogix services using ConnectWise.
