April 13, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting software provider Comdev Software (comdevweb.com) announced on Friday it has released its Web hosting desktop, oDesktop Web Hosting Edition (odesktop.net), remodelled from the original oDesktop Application Service Edition to better suit the needs and convenience of the Web hosts and their end users.
The company has incorporated several new features to the desktop application, including the ability to install hosting accounts using the cPanel add-on or via FTP, providing the user administrator with more control over multiple-user accounts. Additionally, the Web Group sharing function enable users within the same Web host or even differing Web hosts to share folders or files, as well as collaborate on projects.
“We came out with the Web Hosting Edition specifically to assist the web hosts in creating value with their current range of products and services,” says Bryan Gan, CEO of Comdev Software. “The current scenario on the Web reflects the competitive nature of the Web hosting business. There is heavy pressure on the pricing while the size of storage space offered rises non-proportionately. This has caused an adverse effect on the margins.”
oDesktop WHE enables Web hosts to bundle the Web desktop program with their current storage space offered to the Web hosting accounts. This encourages end users to increase the frequency of usage as well as the use of the storage space, and in return, creates customer loyalty and provides more opportunities for Web hosts to sell more server space, cross sell products and services, relieve pressure on the margins and have a competitive advantage.
