(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider Phoenix NAP has launched its public cloud offering, Secured Cloud, and is accepting sign-ups as of Thursday.

This move comes a couple weeks after the company launched its redesigned website, likely in preparation for this product launch.

According to the press release, the cloud stack of Secured Cloud uses VMware, Cisco Nexus, F5 Networks, and Cisco Unified Computing System technologies. Phoenix NAP joined the VMware Service Provider Program as an enterprise level member in August.

“We are very excited to release Secured Cloud to market,” Ian McClarty, president of Phoenix NAP said in a statement. “This public cloud offering we believe is unlike many other solutions in that it combines true enterprise-grade technologies on the back-end with a user interface that is simple enough for non-technical users and robust enough for tech-savvy individuals.”

Phoenix NAP says its user interface supports rapid creation of  virtual machines, simple management of virtual resources, and in-depth reporting of virtual assets, with chargeback management functionalities, load balancing options and more.

“The UI is a big part of the experience with cloud solutions. We wanted to make a system that provided all the right functionalities, but did not require advanced IT knowledge,” McClarty stated. “But ease-of-use is only one aspect of our solution. By combining the UI with trusted virtualization technologies, and layering in a pay-as-you-go pricing model, we are establishing a service that allows for any user or business to quickly convert IT capital expenses to operational expenses.”

Secured Cloud can be white labeled, according to Phoenix NAP.

According to the website, Phoenix NAP’s cloud features pay-as-you-go pricing and charges a nominal storage fee for VMs that are off, instead of any CPU or RAM charges as with other cloud services. Phoenix NAP’s website features a cost calculator to illustrate how pricing can be applied to different configurations.

Phoenix NAP is a PCI DSS Validated Service Provider and a SAS 70 Type II certified facility which the WHIR toured last year. To watch the video tour, go here.
