Data center and colocation service provider DataBank Holdings announced on Wednesday it has named Michael Gentry the vice president of operations.

This marks the first major appointment of a DataBank senior management executive in over a year, following Kevin Ooley joining DataBank in October 2011 as chief financial officer.

In his role, Gentry will oversee all of DataBank’s business operational aspects including provisioning, quality assurance, customer service, and new product development.

“Mike is going to be a valuable addition to our team,” said Tim Moore, DataBank’s CEO. “With our new North Dallas facility coming online our immediate objective is to enhance our processes and customer experience and deliver the premium product to this region. Mike is going to be integral to that goal. His experience and expertise will be invaluable as we continue to scale our business and enter new markets.”

Prior to joining DataBank, Gentry served several years as the vice president of managed service operations for SunGard Availability Services.

During his tenure there he managed product engineering and the technical support of compute, storage, database and application management services.

Before that, Gentry managed VeriCenter’s client experience as the vice president of customer service.

DataBank provides enterprise-class data center services which are aimed at providing customers with a 100 percent uptime availability of their data, applications, and infrastructure.

The company’s managed data center services are anchored in its facilities, a multi-homed internet access hub, and a multi-terabyte storage area network.

In June 2011, private equity firm Avista Capital Partners acquired DataBank from private investment firm Freeman Group for $4 billion.
