Colocation Firm Telx Opens Chicago, Atlanta Data Center Expansions

Telx's newly expanded 350 E. Cermak data center in Chicago

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Data center operator and colocation firm Telx (www.telx.com) announced on Friday that the first phase of its 13,500 square foot high-density expansion at its 350 E. Cermak facility in Chicago is now open for immediate occupancy.

The company announced in July it completed the expanded phase at the Chicago colocation facility.

The newly expanded phase accommodates up to 6kW per cabinet, or 330 watts per square foot, which makes it the most power-dense colocation facility in the Chicago area.

The Chicago data center now has 8,000 square feet of available cage space and a limited number of individual high-density cabinets, 30-inch raised floor with over 12 feet floor-to-ceiling clearance, 100 lbs per square foot loading capacity, biometric and card key access for enhanced security, generator and UPS-backed power in a 2N configuration, and access to over 300 service providers and Telx’s Financial Business Exchange located in the building interconnection room, operated by Telx.

In addition to the Chicago expansion, Telx has also expanded its 56 Marietta facility in Atlanta and 600 West 7th facility in Los Angeles over the last six months.

The combined 20,000 square feet of high density space in Chicago and Atlanta accommodate 6kW per cabinet, or 330 watts per square foot.

The newly expanded Atlanta data center phase offers 20,000 square feet of cage space and cabinet, 20-inch raised floor, 12 feet floor-to-ceiling clearance, 150 lbs per square foot loading capacity, man trap entrance with biometric and card key access controls, 3 power feeds from 2 diverse grids backed by generators and UPS with N+1 redundancy, access to over 100 carriers and the Telx Internet Exchange, and both sites feature direct, low latency and cost-efficient cross connects to the buildings’ interconnection rooms, operated by Telx.

All Telx locations are also SAS 70 Type II certified, ensuring modern physical security processes.

Telx also recently doubled the footprint of its data center at the 111 8th Avenue facility in New York City.
