Colocation provider Telx announced on Monday that it has launched the Telx Connect Marketplace, a service for clients to develop new business relationships across a variety of industry sectors.
This news comes two months after Telx named Joe Weinman senior vice president of cloud services and strategy.
The marketplace sounds like a similar initiative to what data center operator Equinix launched last year, in that they both facilitate buying and selling between clients, and allow customers to develop new partnership opportunities.
Telx says its marketplace uses a social networking interface that allows participants to build searchable profiles to market services or discover products based on similar communities or geographic location.
The platform also enables clients to request quotes from potential business partners as well as content or cloud providers. Clients are given matchmaking alerts to see who is researching their products and initiate outreach based on that information.
Web hosts that are in Telx data centers could benefit from this new platform as they look to expand their service portfolios. Last month, web hosting provider Webair launched its carrier neutral cloud with connectivity to Telx’s Ethernet Exchange.
“It’s often the case that potential business partners are just a simple cross-connect away from customers in a multi-tenant data center,” Kelly Morgan, senior analyst for 451 Research said in a statement “As providers, particularly of cloud services, seek to connect with each other and their customers, tools that facilitate these connections will help enable continued growth and will be a key differentiator for their hosts.”
Telx says its marketplace combines the networking and matchmaking benefits of its live event, Marketplace Live, into a virtual platform. Its next live event will be held in the fall of 2012 in New York City, according to the press release.
