(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation and data center operator New York Internet (www.nyi.net) announced on Wednesday that it has achieved SSAE 16 compliance at its two main data centers at 100 William Street in NYC and 999 Frontier Road in New Jersey.

SSAE 16 replaces the SAS 70 Type II standard, which will no longer be valid starting June 15, 2011.

Earlier in January, Web hosting provider INetU Managed Hosting achieved compliance with SSAE 16 in advance.

According to the press release, SSAE 16 assures customers that their data is protected by the most current industry standards.

“We welcome these new standards,” said Phillip Koblence, VP of operations at NYI. “We have always taken ownership of business controls deployed at our facilities. Living up to assertion-based reporting is nothing new at NYI; it has been a benchmark for the past 15 years.”

According to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the organization that oversees SSAE 16 implementation, SSAE 16 differs from SAS 70 because it brings US standards closer to the international standard, ISAE 3402.
