The latest data center will be Interxion's seventh facility in Paris
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider Interxion (www.interxion.com) announced on Wednesday that it is building a data center in the Paris metropolitan area. This facility will be the company’s seventh in Paris, and the first phase will be operational in the second quarter of 2012.
Last month, Host Virtual added a cloud data center in Paris.
According to the press release, the data center will cost approximately $327 million when completed.
The new facility will meet the demands of customers who will benefit from Interxion’s existing connectivity options of more than 70 carriers, according to the company.
Interxion says it will provide about 96,875 additional square feet of equipped space and the first phase will provide more than 48,000 square feet of data hall space.
“This build represents a significant investment and demonstrates our confidence in and commitment to maintaining our leadership position in the fast growing Paris market,” David Ruberg, Interxion’s chief executive officer said in a statement. “This build is our third new data center in three years in the Paris market and reflects the tremendous success we have enjoyed in serving the fast-growing network, digital media, content, and cloud market segments, as well as large France-headquartered multinational customers.”
The company says the data center is secured by a long-term lease as well as an option to purchase the site.
“This location in La Courneuve is extremely attractive to our customers, and its close proximity to our other data centers will allow our customers to leverage their existing resources to reduce costs and improve performance. Since it will be directly connected to our other data centers, our customers will continue to benefit from the superior carrier connectivity capabilities that we have in place today,” Fabrice Coquio, Interxion France managing director said in a statement. “Our customers place great value on our track record of delivering high-quality service, at premium locations, offering high-density options, from within the most well-connected campus in France. PAR7 has all of these key attributes, and that will allow us to continue our tradition of providing superior customer service.”
Interxion manages 28 sites, covering 13 cities in 11 countries, according to its website. It provides data center, colocation and managed services to more than 1,200 customers, including web hosting companies.
