(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Colocation provider Internap Network Services (www.internap.com) announced on Thursday it has successfully completed the Statement on Auditing Standards No. 70 Type II audit for its data centers.
The audit included the more than 491,500 gross square-foot of Internap’s data center space at 50 Inner Belt Road in Somerville, Massachusetts, 111 8 Avenue in New York City, and six additional facilities in Atlanta, Houston, and Seattle.
The SAS 70 Type II audit confirms that an independent certified public accounting firm has reviewed and tested Internap’s data center security and operational procedures.
The audit proves that Internap’s controls and processes have been suitably designed and are operating effectively to protect its customers’ equipment and data, says the company.
By completing the Type II audit, Internap confirms that only authorized employees and customers are granted access to the data center, redundant HVAC and UPS systems reduce the likelihood that mechanical and electrical failures will result in an outage, and all critical facility systems are inspected and serviced regularly and monitored continuously to ensure effective operation.
Internap’s SAS 70 Type II audit is the culmination of considerable time, energy and resources the company has invested in expanding its footprint in the Boston and New York markets over the past year.
The colocation provider opened 50 Inner Belt, a 45,000-square-foot facility in February, while expanding and upgrading its 76,000 gross square-foot data center at 111 8 Avenue in April. Both these green builds featured energy-efficient data center systems.

Established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, SAS 70 is a widely-recognized auditing standard in which third-party service auditors assess the operational effectiveness of how effective the
internal controls of a service organization.
