(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) – Data center operator CyrusOne (www.cyrusone.com) announced on Monday that it is expanding with a new 72,000 square foot data center in Austin, Texas.

Two weeks ago, CyrusOne made its first move into the European market with a 10,000 square foot data center in London, UK.

Last week, the WHIR delved into the construction of colocation firm Data Foundry’s data center campus in Austin, Texas. The 250,000 square foot data center, the first facility in its Data Ranch, will open in June 2011.

CyrusOne says its new data center in Austin is the first on an optional four-phase, 288,000 square foot data center campus. The first phase of construction will begin this month and is expected to be operational by the fourth quarter of 2011, according to the company.

CyrusOne plans to serve the San Antonio market with this facility as well.

“We’ve been wildly successful in Austin and need to add inventory to service enterprises in need of high availability colocation space. We’ve seen a multitude of companies re-evaluating their data center colocation needs and moving to the Austin area,” David Ferdman, CEO, CyrusOne said in a statement. “This greenfield development is yet another opportunity to demonstrate our innovation and long-term commitment to local and Silicon Valley companies doing business in Austin.”

The facility will be located at the MetCenter II and will feature two seperate on-site electric substations, with the expansion capability of 400 megawatts of capacity.

According to CyrusOne, “the building will be encircled by both interior and exterior fiber optic loops for quick and cost-effective redundant access to and from numerous telecommunications carriers.”
