(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — California-based Colocation provider American Internet Services (www.americanis.com) announced on Monday that it has opened its first data center outside the state, in Phoenix, Arizona.
The first step in a “multiphase launch into the Arizona market” (says the company’s website), the new facility, is 5,000 square feet, located in the Phoenix carrier facility at 120 East Van Buren street. The company says the facility is equipped with redundant UPS systems, and cooling infrastructure, along with 24-hour security.
In the announcement, AIS describes Phoenix as a “low risk, geographically stable region of the country,” calling it an ideal location for an expansion designed to address growing customer demand for disaster recovery and business continuity services.
The profile of Phoenix as a data center destination has been increasing recently, due in part to the efforts of organizations like PhoenixNAP, which announced earlier in the month that it had begun the process of filling out its meet-me room with a list of new carrier contracts.
“We are extremely excited to offer out-of-state mission critical capacity and plug and play disaster recovery solutions, compliments of our private OC192 backbone, in support of our growing client base’s ever-changing needs,” said Alessandra Lezama, CEO of AIS, quoted in the announcement. “We have received an overwhelming number of requests for AIS’s unique cross market networking solutions from Phoenix enterprise clients looking to implement high bandwidth, geographically dispersed hosted applications over a private network. We look forward to servicing these requests and becoming a contributing member of the Phoenix IT community.”
