October 2, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Optical Internet service provider Cogent Communications Corp. (CogentCo.com) announced on Tuesday that it has upgraded the PSINet data centers acquired in Los Angeles, New York City and Herndon, Virginia with Cogent connectivity and will begin to promote them immediately.

Cogent?s initial promotion involves offering free rack space to customers, enterprises and service providers who purchase a 100 or 1,000 Mbps connection at any of the three colocation facilities. The rack space includes one fast Ethernet port, two 20-amp circuits, uninterruptible power, secure facilities and full environmental controls.

The 100 and 1,000 Mbit connections will be available, says Cogent for $30 per megabit. Each colocation facility will provide rack space and connectivity to Cogent?s dedicated optical Internet transit service.
