Cogent Acquires LambdaNet France, Spain

January 6, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Washington-based telecommunications carrier Cogent Communications (cogentco.com) said today that it has acquired the operating entities of pan-European carrier LambdaNet Communications (lambdanet.net) based in France and Spain.

According to Cogent, it did not pay for the LambdaNet France and LambdaNet Spain assets, but the two entities, which will become a combined company, both received new equity investments from a group of private equity investors based in Europe and the United States.

“Cogent plans to create one of the largest pan-European operations in existence and intends to offer some of the highest quality transit services available in the world to carrier customers and retail end-users throughout Europe,” said Dave Schaeffer, CEO of Cogent Communications.

Cogent said it plans to introduce low-cost Internet service to carriers across Europe.
