(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — As demand for private cloud solutions grows, flexible IT solutions provider Cobweb Solutions (www.cobweb.com) has launched Dedicated Exchange 2010, a new, managed cloud service for messaging and collaboration, which has an integrated user and management experience, as well as integration into a customers’ existing Active Directory, effectively making it unnecessary for organisations to host their own email servers.
Dedicated Exchange 2010 service provides an advanced, reliable and secure solution, based on the recently launched Microsoft Exchange Server 2010, as well as Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 and VMware vSphere 4, according to Cobweb’s Tuesday announcement. It is delivered as a private cloud solution, built, managed and hosted by Cobweb, which has a track-record of hosting since 1996, and meets the data security and management standards of ISO9001.
“VMware vSphere v4 and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 join our strategic best-of-breed technologies that also includes MessageLabs, EMC and Parallels, to form the basis of our managed cloud platforms,” Cobweb chief technology officer Dan Germain said in a statement. “Our significant experience as world-leading Hosted Exchange experts, equips us to provide advances in platform resilience, application performance and integration flexibility; resulting in a managed service that uses the latest and greatest technologies with a lower total cost of ownership.”
An authorised VMware Hosting Provider and a member of the VMware Partner Community for Virtualising Exchange, Cobweb was one of only seven UK-based founding pilot partners for the VMware Service Provider Program, which requires VMware-certified professionals across the company.
Germain said Dedicated Exchange 2010 is ideal for organisations with 500 or more employees, letting them consolidate their messaging and collaboration environments, improve business productivity and reduce operational costs, without capital expenditure.
The fragmentation of user management can often be a barrier to the adoption of cloud services for enterprise organisations, which is one of the reasons why integration with an established on-premise Active Directory is an important development for Cobweb. It provides a single sign-on for users and unified user management capabilities, as well as wider application support.
“When moving to any cloud service, it’s important that the experience is risk free for the organisation and painless for the end-user,” Germain said. “In the majority of deployments, it’s possible to move from on-premise Microsoft Exchange servers to our Dedicated Exchange service with no end-user disruption – settings, user name and passwords remain the same.”
