CNET to Go Offline During Hosting Switch

July 4, 2002 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Information provider and Internet publisher CNET Networks Inc. announced on Thursday that it has scheduled site maintenance to occur during the upcoming holiday weekend.

The maintenance, says CNET, will cause an outage for the majority of the company?s Web sites during the weekend, which is typically a slow one for the company.

According to the company, the maintenance was made necessary by CNET Networks? required move of hosting facility and provider.

One of the hosting providers used by CNET, MFN, recently filed for bankruptcy protection and, as part of its reorganization efforts, will be shutting down its San Francisco facility, which hosts servers powering several of CNET Network?s Web sites.

Starting on the evening of July 5, and continuing through July 7, says CNET, the companies will be moving its servers to another facility run by AT&T.

Intended to ensure the long-term performance and continuity of CNET Network?s Web sites, says the company, the maintenance was planned for the holiday weekend to minimize its impact on users and the company?s business.
