September 10, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IT events producer Plum Communications (plumcom.ca) has announced it will be hosting the first cloud computing conference and CloudCamp in Canada.
According to the announcement Wednesday, the one-day event is called “Cloud Computing an IT Paradigm Shift” (itcloudconference.com) and will be held November 12, 2008 in Toronto.
Plum Communications, which produces Toronto’s IT360° Conference (it360.ca), is pleased to host the new conference because the company believes cloud computing has reached a stage where adoption has become an option for many businesses but business decision-makers may lack the knowledge to implement such systems.
“As software transitions from a traditional desktop deployment model to that of a network and internet-centric one, ‘the cloud’ will be the key way in which you develop, deploy, and manage applications in this new computing paradigm,” Enomaly (enomaly.com) co-founder and chief technologist Reuven Cohen said in a statement.
Cohen came up with the concept of CloudCamp as an “Open Space-style, two-hour event providing a common ground for the introduction and advancement of cloud computing.” It has since drawn a dedicated following, having been recently held in San Francisco and the UK. Future camps in Europe have been proposed.
According to Plum Communications, the new conference combines an agenda of “knowledge-based” seminars with round-table discussions between users and industry experts.
Sessions topics include: Cloud Computing – is it ready for prime time?; Assessment of Platform as a Service and Infrastructure Models; The Challenge of Scale; and Migration Risks and Rewards. The conference concludes with the first CloudCamp in Canada.
“Wrapping up [the] conference with CloudCamp is an incredible opportunity for everyone to take the knowledge learned during the day and put it out there in a relaxed, unstructured discussion while enjoying great company,” Cohen said.
