(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud storage provider Nirvanix (www.nirvanix.com) announced on Thursday it has launched a new program that provides its customers currently storing data in its Node 3 data center in Japan with the option of moving their data to one of its other data centers for free.
Customers can move their data to any other locations in the Nirvanix Cloud Storage Networ, either on a temporary or full-time basis.
The move is in response to the recent earthquake and tsunami that ripped the coast of Northeastern Japan, causing significant damage to the country’s power infrastructure.
Nirvanix says that all of the data in its Node 3 data center in Japan is secure. Located about 200 miles away from the impacted area, all services remain normal and available at this time.
The Japanese government, along with the help of Tohoku-Electric Power and Tokyo Electric Power, have implemented scheduled power outages throughout cities in subruban Tokyo.
These rolling blackouts are designed to cope with the lack of generating capacity after the earthquake and tsunami damaged nuclear plants in northern Japan.
All Nirvanix carrier-class data centers are fully redundant, including redundant diesel generator power backups and full UPS redundancy to maintain full power at all times, even during rolling blackout periods.
However, for those customers seeking extra peace of mind during these uncertain times, Nirvanix is allowing customers to select where they would like their data to specifically reside, at no additional cost.
Data relocation options outside of Japan include four additional Nirvanix data centers in Los Angeles, New York and Dallas, and one in Frankfurt, Germany.
