(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Online backup service firm Mozy (www.mozy.com) announced this week that it had successfully completed the SAS 70 and ISO 27001 certifications, both of them serving as validations for the company’s standards around data security.

The SAS 70 certification is the popular auditing standard developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, verifying that an organization has been through an audit of its control objectives and activities. ISO 27001 is based on a measure of information security management systems, developed by the International Organization for Standards.

“The ISO 27001 certification and successful completion of the SAS 70 Type II audit proves our dedication and commitment to protecting our customers’ data by making sure our own operations are safe and secure,” said Charlotte Yarkoni, chief operating officer of Mozy, quoted in the company’s press release. “We’re not just asking you to take our word for it, as the ISO certification and SAS 70 Type II audit are third party confirmations of the high standards we hold ourselves to in providing the safest, most reliable online backup service on the planet.”

The press release also includes statements from a representative of the State Bank of Geneva, a customer of Mozy’s business-grade offering that keeps sensitive data on the company’s systems.

Enterprise Strategy Group analyst David A. Chapa, also quoted in the announcement, says audits of this kind are “terrific” stamps of approval for providers of online backup services.

Mozy delivers its online backup service to consumer and business customers, and was acquired in 2007 by EMC, the well known developer of high-end storage hardware.
