Dome9 says an infinite number of servers and security groups can be added through its portal
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud security provider Dome9 Security announced on Wednesday that it has added a new group-based firewall policy management capability called Dome9 Security Groups to its cloud security management service. It consolidates security management across multiple cloud servers and providers with unified policies.
Dome9 says its security groups function lets users apply a single policy across an infinite number of servers and clouds, eliminating the legwork of setting and managing policies for individual servers.
Dome9 Security Groups allow administrators to group servers together under a single policy or set of policies, such as “SSH on-demand for all SQL servers.” Servers can be added to any number of Dome9 Security Groups and moved around as required. Users can be granted access to a single server or all servers within a group.
“Security groups are an important way to implement some measure of security control within a cloud environment,” Andrew Hay, senior security analyst at 451 Research said in a statement. “As no single cloud platform or provider has emerged as the de facto standard, products like Dome9 can help extend an organization’s security policy and centralized management beyond its traditional perimeter regardless of chosen platform.”
Dome9 automates firewall management for public and private clouds, as well as for dedicated and virtual private servers across various platforms.
Dome9 secures all administrative ports – ports like SSH, RDP, and MYSQL left open so administrators can connect to and manage their cloud servers. This leaves servers vulnerable to hackers who need to guess a username and password to gain unauthorized access to a server.
Security Groups is available starting Wednesday, according to the press release. Dome9 is a monthly subscription service starting at around $20 per server per month. It provides cloud security management to enterprises, hosting providers, and supports clouds, VPS, dedicated servers, and Amazon’s EC2 Security Groups, across all major operating systems and service providers.
In December 2011, Dome9 partnered with Colocation America to offer its security firewall management service to Colocation America customers.
