Cloud management platform provider Tier 3 announced on Wednesday that it has named Matthew J. Schiltz president and CEO.

Schiltz will join the executive team anchored by founder Jared Wray, who will continue to drive product and technology leadership as CTO and chief architect of the Tier 3 cloud. Aside from its cloud management platform, Tier 3 offers cloud hosting, platform as a service and security services in the cloud.

While its end users are mostly enterprise, Tier 3 saw record Fortune 1000 customer expansion last year, it has worked with service providers to drive growth. In December, PEER 1 launched its enterprise cloud platform in Canada through a partnership with Tier 3.

With 25 years of experience in high-tech, and as a seasoned cloud startup CEO, Schiltz will be responsible for pushing Tier 3 to the next phase of growth. Most recently, Schiltz served as CEO for cloud storage and backup service SymForm, seeing it to its $11 million funding round last April.

Schiltz will join Wray and outside directors Mark Adams (Equinix), John Connors (Ignition Partners), and Matt McIlwain (Madrona Venture Group) on Tier 3’s board.

Previously, Schiltz served as CEO for cloud-based electronic signature provider DocuSign, and cloud-based court record provider CourtLink. In the past he has held leadership positions with high-tech companies including Interactive Objects, Cable Plus, and founded Statistical Sciences in the late 80s, seeing it to its merger and with MathSoft in 1993.

“Under Jared’s technical leadership, Tier 3 has emerged as the innovation leader in enterprise public cloud,” Connors said in a statement. “We are delighted to land Matt Schiltz as the new CEO of Tier 3. As the lead investors in DocuSign, we experienced first-hand his exceptional ability in guiding cloud companies through periods of rapid growth. Matt is the ideal leader for Tier 3 as it capitalizes on the tremendous market opportunity for enterprise cloud management software and services.”

“Matt was our top CEO target. He brings the key strategic and operational leadership needed to guide Tier 3 as we deliver the most complete enterprise cloud management platform available” Jared Wray, Tier 3 founder and CTO said in a statement. “I’m eager to work closely with Matt and the entire Tier 3 leadership team as we embark on this next chapter of Tier 3.”

Last year Tier 3 strategically expanded into Europe and Canada, growing its cloud footprint to 10 data centers and enhancing its enterprise PaaS, web fabric, and cloud server group management capabilities.
