(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud infrastructure provider Cloudscaling announced on Monday that it has launched an open cloud infrastructure solution based on OpenStack.

According to the press release, the Cloudscaling Open Cloud System is designed to deliver the cost, performance and scalability benefits of Amazon Web Services for private or public clouds. Cloudscaling’s open cloud infrastructure is ideal for cloud-ready applications that require high peak loads and elasticity, according to the press release.

Cloudscaling’s partner program already has web hosting and cloud computing provider participation, including Rackspace, enStratus and RightScale. This illustrates an opportunity for other web hosts to join the program and deploy Open Cloud OS.

The release of Cloudscaling’s IaaS reflects the demand for supported, production-centric, OpenStack solutions, according to co-founder and CTO of Cloudscaling Randy Bias.

“Cloudscaling is focused on delivering enterprise-ready cloud infrastructure to meet that demand,” Bias said in a statement.  “Our timing is ideal, as our customers are finding that traditional enterprise cloud approaches are not well-suited for next-generation, cloud-ready apps. Cloudscaling OCS is a production-grade, open cloud system that gives enterprises their own scalable and elastic infrastructure to support like-minded applications.

Cloudscaling OCS has three core components: Open Cloud OS, hardware blueprints and CloudBlocks.

Open Cloud OS is a cloud operating system for production cloud deployments. The hardware blueprints detail hardware configurations to meet specific price/performance and availability targets. CloudBlocks are modular cloud building blocks that integrate Open Cloud OS software with hardware reference blueprints.

Cloudscaling has production OpenStack experience deploying OpenStack software at companies like Internap and Korea Telecom, according to the press release.

“Cloudscaling OCS is our answer to customers who are telling us that they want public and private cloud infrastructure that’s specifically designed to support the cloud-ready applications they’re building,” Michael Grant, CEO of Cloudscaling said in a statement. “They want the freedom that comes with an open infrastructure architecture, and that’s what Cloudscaling OCS delivers.”
