Cisco Delivers New Data Center Solutions

January 14, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Internet networking specialist Cisco Systems Inc. (Cisco.com) announced on Tuesday that it has introduced two new products, along with new certified architectures, to its content networking portfolio for data centers.

The additions, says Cisco, allow customers to build virtual, distributed data centers that deliver applications to users more efficiently, helping to protect network availability and performance during system stress or failure.

The new content switching devices, says Cisco, are the Cisco GSS 4480 Global Site Selector, which balances Web traffic across distributed data centers, and the entry-level Cisco CSS 11501 Content Services Switch, which supports the need to bring content switching to small-scale, application server farms that support Internet, intranet and extranet use.

Along with the devices, Cisco unveiled certified reference architectures with BEASystems Inc. and Siebel Systems, designed to optimize application performance and availability. The architectures make deployment of Cisco content switching solutions easier, help to ensure optimal use of existing resources and improve the reliability of complex e-business systems.
