April 30, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cisco Systems Inc. (cisco.com) and EMC Corporation (emc.com) announced Tuesday they had reached a deal to develop and sell storage-area network products.
EMC will develop storage applications and delivery services for Cisco?s MDS 9000 product line of directors and fabric switches. Cisco will continue focusing on applications regarding security and traffic management.
The MDS 9000 debuted last quarter. Under the terms of the deal, EMC will sell the products under its Connectrix product line. The products will look like an EMC product from the outside, while inside, the products will be cobranded.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Executives from both companies said the deal would allow the companies to use their respective expertise to bring a quality product to market. ?There has been significant interest from our customers,” said David Golden, EMC’s executive vice president of corporate marketing. “They are clearly looking for a solution rather than technology they would have to integrate themselves.”
