January 24, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (cira.ca), the registry managing the .ca top-level domain, announced on Wednesday that Byron G. Holland has been named its new president and CEO. Holland succeeds CIRA’s interim chief operating officer, Ron Harbottle, who will retire from his post after eight years of service.

“We are delighted to have Byron Holland joining CIRA and look forward to his contributions as we continue to evolve and improve our business,” says Debi Rosati, chair of CIRA’s board of directors. “Byron’s strong operational experience and background in customer-centric, technology driven industries will benefit CIRA as we continue to deliver world-class domain registration and DNS services while we improve customer satisfaction.”

Holland has over 17 years experience in the technology, finance and retail sectors and joins CIRA from Futura Rewards where he was a founding partner and performed as chief operating officer.

CIRA also recently announced that it is looking for stories of how people and businesses are using their .ca TLDs as part of a national campaign to celebrate the registration of the millionth .ca domain name. The winner’s story will appear on the website and the top entries will receive one of five Apple MacBook laptops. Entries must be received by February 8.
