Chinese Blog Shut Down by Government

November 7, 2005 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — A Chinese blog has been shut down after being nominated in the “freedom of expression” category of the Deutsche Welle International Weblog Awards 2005, reports say.

The Web hosting company that hosts anti-government writer Wang Yi’s Weblog “Microphone” blog has taken the site offline on the orders of the Internet surveillance bureau of Hainan province, The People’s Republic of China.

China is known for its efforts to censor the Internet and has not hesitated to shut down Web sites hosting content it deems politically subversive.

Winners for Deutsche Welle’s awards will be announced on November 21, 2005.
