The ClickID Premium seal with photo verification for DigiCert's own website
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Authentication and encryption service provider DigiCert announced on Friday that it has launched the public beta of its ClickID trust seal program, an identity-verifying website seal that appears to be designed in the format of similar products, such as Symantec’s VeriSign trust seal or the TRUSTe seal.
The exact terms of the public beta aren’t described in the release, but the ClickID website appears to be actively selling seals
In general, trust seals are a kind of lightweight alternative to an SSL certificate for sites that want the identity verification without the encryption (though some sites employ them alongside SSL certificates). The trust seal is an image the user can display on their website, which certifies that the site operator’s identity has been verified by the seal’s provider.
For web hosting providers, a site seal product may mean a solution they can provide to customers who aren’t necessarily doing transactions online, but are perhaps requesting that users create accounts.
DigiCert says ClickID customers can choose to use the standard trust seal (which can be displayed on their site), or can upgrade to the ClickID Premium with Photo Verification product, which includes an on-site visit from a ClickID representative, and photographs from the visit.
According to the announcement, DigiCert’s trust seals are available in one, two or three year licenses, and start at $79 per year. They can also be bundled alongside SSL certificates.
The DigiCert website includes a section describing the company’s programs for referral and reseller partners, which offer commissions and pricing discounts, respectively. Hosting providers are an obvious target for those programs.
The ClickID website doesn’t seem to contain any information specifically for resellers, but the products are more than likely available to DigiCert resellers.
