CERT, Dept. of Homeland Security Partner

September 15, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The US Department of Homeland Security (whitehouse.gov/homeland) announced today it has entered into a partnership with Carnegie Mellon University?s CERT Coordination Center (CERT/CC) (cert.org) to create US-CERT, a coordination point for prevention, protection, and response to cyber attacks across the Internet.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Tom Ridge described US-CERT as “a key element to our national strategy to combat terrorism and protect our critical infrastructure.” The Secretary cited the recent Blaster worm and SoBig virus attacks as evidence of the need for an emergency response program.

The US-CERT will include partnerships with private sector security vendors and other domestic or international organizations. These groups will work together to prevent and respond to cyber attacks across the Internet.
