(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Global, full-service content delivery network provider CDNetworks (www.cdnetworks.com) has merged its US and European operations with Panther Express, the New York-based CDN that helped deliver content for Barack Obama’s campaign website.
According to CDNetwork’s Wednesday announcement, it has merged its US and European operations with Panther Express’. In an industry where the size of their networks matters, this merger, announced Wednesday, expands CDNetworks’ position as a content acceleration network, expanding their content and application reach throughout the world.
According to CDNetworks, its strong financial backing will ensure that Panther Express’ customers will continue to receive high performance service and proprietary caching technology.
A year ago, Panther Express closed a $15.75 million round of venture financing, which was used to fund for international expansion and further infrastructure investment to support its growing customer base.
Panther Express, which was founded by the former DoubleClick chief executive officer Kevin P. Ryan, and in little more than three years, Panther Express has established an international client base of more than 425 customers across a broad range of markets including video and audio delivery, podcasting, ad serving, web hosting, and gaming applications.
Founded in 2000 in Seoul, Korea, CDNetworks said that it is among the top three global, full-service CDNs. Data Center Knowledge’s Rich Miller has speculated that this acquisition will contribute to the consolidation of CDN services by just a handful of large providers.
