CDNetworks Announces 2008 Growth Results

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Asian content delivery network provider CDNetworks (www.cdnetworks.com) announced on Wednesday the results from its first full year of operation in the United States, following its expansion last year, which includes a 300 percent growth in revenue and a five-fold increase in the US customer base.

CDNetworks had a landmark year in 2008, expanding its network infrastructure to Europe and the US. The company rolled out its broad base of CDN technology and services in the US, including a new customer portal and key partner relationships.

2008 proved to be a significant year for the content delivery service industry at large, with major developments from Amazon Web Services, which launched in October the public beta of its CDN service, CloudFront, and web hosting provider SoftLayer’s launch of CDNLayer in May.

CDNetworks US increased its staff from eight employees in 2008 to 40 employees today. These appointments include three key executives, naming Sarah Willis to vice president of marketing, Vikas Garg to vice president of business development, and John Kang to vice president of business development.

The company attributes its growth in the US to its “customer first” approach. In 2008, CDNetworks US increased its customers from 20 to 122, adding to CDNetworks’ worldwide customer base of over 1000 customers.

Additionally, CDNetwork’s revenue in the US increased by 300 percent from 2007 to 2008.

The company expanded its global network infrastructure in 2008 by adding POPs in Australia and Brazil, resulting in a total of 67 POPs on five continents, including Asia, North America and Europe.

CDNetworks has also expanded its technology offerings in the US market through both the deployment of in-house technology offerings and key partnership relationships, including partnerships with Adobe and Microsoft.

“CDNetworks US has grown in both size and industry recognition over the past year,” says Simon Lee, CDNetworks US country manager. “Now acknowledged as a top three global, full-service CDN, it is the very best choice for customers who want real customer service and support. We are excited about our opportunities in the US and are positioned as the leading CDN for customers wanting to expand to a truly global presence.”

Founded in 2000, Seoul, South Korea-based CDNetworks provides content delivery network services, including the technology, network infrastructure, and customer services that accelerate the delivery of Internet content and applications to end users around the world.

In September, CDNetworks joined the DE-CIX exchange at Equinix, providing CDNetworks and other DE-CIX customers access to Equinix’s colocation services.
