Wholesale data center operator TELEHOUSE America (www.telehouse.com) announced on Monday that Internet carrier AboveNet (www.above.net) is the first carrier to connect to the company’s new data center at 85 10th Avenue in the Chelsea area of New York City.

TELEHOUSE says the connection represents the company’s commitment to providing customers with a variety of carrier-neutral opportunities from its facilities.

Quoted in the press release, AboveNet says it actively seeks out “critical business locations,” and is therefore eager to service TELEHOUSE’s facilities in the New York metro area.

“TELEHOUSE’s state-of the-art facilities provide a secure foundation for the finance sector’s communications,” says Noriyuki Kita, executive vice president of TELEHOUSE America, quoted in the announcement. “Clients such as AboveNet can not only house their mission-critical infrastructure components within 85 10th Avenue, as well as TELEHOUSE New York Broadway or TELEHOUSE New York Teleport, but also provide a direct link between these facilities through an ultra low-latency route for a resilient disaster recovery solution.”

According to TELEHOUSE, AboveNet is currently a tenant in the company’s New York Chelsea, New York Broadway, New York Teleport and Los Angeles facilities. In June of last year, AboveNet connected to the TELEHOUSE London Docklands East and London Metro facilities.

In april this year, TELEHOUSE connected its Chelsea data center to its NYIIX exchange, which it also reported had doubled in traffic during 2011.
