Caringo Unveils Private Cloud Storage App

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Online storage software provider Caringo (www.caringo.com) has released a free Windows application that simplifies the clustered storage of data on a home or office, or a shared cloud provided by a managed services provider.

According to Caringo’s Tuesday announcement, CloudFolder creates a desktop folder for individual users that connects them to Caringo’s cloud, giving them 4TB of personal storage. CloudFolder is built on Caringo’s “CAStor” content storage software platform.

CloudFolder can be used with a CAStor cluster over the Internet, or on a private cloud with the download of a free 4TB CAStor license.

“CloudFolder gives organizations the ability to offer their end users file protection and access without impact to their normal activities,” Caringo chief executive officer Mark Goros said in a statement. “Once files are in CAStor, users never have to back them up or worry about their integrity. The scalability and high performance of CAStor makes this all possible. We believe CloudFolder will inspire users to test and deploy private cloud storage within an organization or throughout a network of managed service customers.”

Able to be downloaded, installed, and configured for use in seconds, CloudFolder provides automatic access to a CAStor cluster, making it a simple way for IT departments and MSPs to provide file storage and archiving to an increasingly mobile and remote user community.

The Windows interface also gives users transparent access to the cloud storage infrastructure in a familiar package. Users can simply drag and drop individual files or whole directories to CloudFolder for remote storage. They can also share folders for online collaboration.
