CAPSTAR to Build LEED Dallas Data Center

CAPSTAR and The Cambay Group's new LEED data center build in Mesquite, Texas.

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — CAPSTAR Commercial Real Estate Services (www.capstarcommercial.com) and The Cambay Group (www.cambaygroup.com) announced on Tuesday that construction on the 3000 Skyline Dallas (www.3000skylinedallas.com), its 770,000-square-foot data center development, is on schedule for a launch of phase one in the first quarter of 2010.

The data center is located in Mesquite, Texas, nine miles from the Dallas’ central business district.

The facility has its own on-site substation which will feature 100 million watts of power provided by Oncor Electric Delivery Company.

According to CAPSTAR principal John Patterson, 3000 Skyline Dallas is projected to be one of the country’s five most powerful data centers. The initial installation will provide 40 million watts of power.

The LEED-designed facility, divisible into four quadrants of 20 million volt amps each, will provide robust TIA-942 design standards for Tier III data centers.

Each quadrant has its own separate internal entrance for individual user security, individual electrical distribution with feeder circuits and a new FM I-90 roof.

The facility will offer scalable data center spaces that are divisible from 45,000 to 770,000 square feet.

“At the stage of development that we’re in, every detail is important,” says Bret Bunnett, CAPSTAR president. “But the most crucial element is the electric power provider, and we are very pleased with the cooperation and leadership we are experiencing with Oncor. They have been reassuring and thoroughly professional. We know that they’ll deliver what we require and more.”

The 3000 Skyline Dallas project also has a partnership with the City of Mesquite. The tax incentive program is part of Project Renewal, a long-term plan to make Mesquite one of North-Texas’ premier communities.

The program will give 3000 Skyline Dallas tenants special tax incentives, including a 10 year, 50 percent abatement of taxes on real property improvements, as well as a 10 year, 50 percent abatement of taxes on business personal property.

The architectural firm of RTKL has designed the facility, while the Thornton Tomasetti firm is providing structural engineering consulting.
