(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — After losing a family member to drug abuse, Canadianwebhosting.com (www.canadianwebhosting.com) chief executive officer Tony Chu has donated $5,000 on behalf of his company to Union Gospel Mission (www.ugm.ca), a non-profit urban relief organization serving Vancouver and Mission, British Columbia, providing food, shelter and counselling to those in need.
According to Canadianwebhosting.com’s Monday announcement, Chu hopes to help others who are up against similar challenges rise above their current predicament, and not despite the passing of his family member. UGM offers emergency and prevention assistance, as well as alcohol recovery programs. Based in Vancouver, in supporting a local charity, Chu is not only helping the community, but also fostering goodwill within the community much like other companies in their local community such as HostGator (www.hostgator.com) in Florida.
UGM was founded in 1940, and now operates 12 locations in Metro Vancouver and in the nearby city of Mission.
“I understand what our homeless brothers and sisters go through day after day,” Chu said in a statement. “That is why we have chosen Union Gospel Mission as our charity of choice. I wish to thank UGM for their dedication and hard work as they help people get back on their feet and rebuild their lives.”
Founded in 1998, Canadianwebhosting.com is a privately-held web hosting company that provides 24/7/365 phone, email and online chat support. While not as large as Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com), which estimated its 2008 contributions to be more than $1.65 million, by choosing meaningful and attainable charitable goals, Canadianwebhosting.com hopes its donation will pay off not only for the company, but also for the local community.
