Cable Failure Hits UK Internet Traffic

November 26, 2003 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — A major failure in the TAT-14 fiber-optic cable system that connects the United States with several countries on the European continent has left the system unusable and caused disruption to Internet services in the United Kingdom, according to a report published today on the ZDNet UK Web site.

British Telecom (BT.com), a member of the consortium of carriers that own the TAT-14 cable system, said the disruption occurred between France and the Netherlands and disrupted a range of telecommunications services, according to ZDNet.

A BT spokesman said that France Telecom would send out a team to repair the problem. The spokesman added that the cause of the problem was not known and no time frame was set for its repair.
