(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IT management software and solutions provider CA Technologies (www.ca.com) has agreed to acquire online fraud prevention, authentication and electronic document security services firm Arcot Systems (www.arcot.com) for $200 million in cash.
According to CA’s Monday announcement, the acquisition will enable CA to add Arcot’s fraud prevention and advanced authentication technology to its current identity and access management offerings.
A recent Wall Street Journal article notes that this is the latest in a series of software sector acquisitions that are establishing a consolidation trend. Particularly, developers of security and cloud computing software, the author notes “have proved enticing targets.”
Chip-maker Intel (www.intel.com), for instance, agreed to buy security software firm McAfee (www.mcafee.com) earlier this month for the hefty sum of $7.7 billion. And more recently, technology company Citrix Systems (www.citrix.com) announced an agreement to acquire virtualization-management software company VMLogix (www.vmlogix.com).
Ealier this month, CA announced its acquisition of virtualization and cloud infrastructure consulting firm 4Base Technology (www.ca.com/4base), which will give CA customers strategic advice and implementation expertise for transitioning to the cloud more quickly, pragmatically and successfully.
