CA Technologies announced on Tuesday the availability of a new monitoring tool, CA Nimsoft Monitor Snap, which allows users to monitor up to 30 devices for free.
The tool is a free version of its CA Nimsoft Monitor solution, and provides monitoring capabilities for network resources, physical and virtual servers, storage, and databases in a fully-integrated solution.
CA Technologies says its new tool is unlike other open source or free products for monitoring in that it can be set up quickly and can be managed from only one panel, rather than requiring multiple solutions to monitor each different aspect of the network. Open source monitoring solutions do exist, but it can require a large investment in customization.
The solution is a good option for a business who has limited devices to monitor, and may think other security solutions are too costly.
“Until today, under-resourced customers faced an unacceptable choice between non-integrated ‘point’ monitoring tools, technically challenging open-source code, and conventional enterprise-class technology that cost too much and took too long to implement,” John Smith, GM, infrastructure management, CA Technologies said. “With CA Nimsoft Monitor Snap, these customers finally have a solution that genuinely meets their specific needs.”
The freemium model has been adopted by other monitoring and security providers, with the idea that when customers use a free version, they are likely to require more robust features down the line as their needs change and their businesses grow and turn into paying customers.
CA Technologies created a community support site for all of its customers to access a community discussion board, free documentation, a knowledge base, and instructional videos.
