C-SPAN Picks SAVVIS Managed Hosting

August 17, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Web hosting and managed services provider SAVVIS Communications (savvis.net) announced on Monday that it has secured a contract to provide its Intelligent Hosting services for cable network C-SPAN (c-span.org).

Through the deal, SAVVIS will provide failsafe access for the C-SPAN.org Web site in response to heightened security interests. The C-SPAN Web site features live and on-demand C-SPAN programming at no charge, and includes a searchable video archive, links to other political sites, an interactive campaign event calendar, online discussion boards and teaching resources.

Savvis will also provide C-SPAN with its global load balancing services suite, helping them to distribute traffic evenly between data centers, maximizing the efficiency of the C-SPAN network while controlling costs. C-SPAN can also use SAVVIS’ Intelligent Traffic Management to administer load balancing at its discretion.

“Our goal was to increase the overall capacity and availability of our Web services, in addition to expanding disaster recovery and system redundancy coverage, all the while controlling costs,” says Robert G. Kennedy, executive vice president of C-SPAN. “SAVVIS’ documented superiority in managed hosting and network performance ? based on advances in virtualized services delivery ? made them the clear choice.”
