(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In the second data center track session of day three at HostingCon 2010, DH Capital’s Daniel Golding discussed the current state of the data center sector in his presentation, “Bullish on Data Centers”, as well as where it is headed.
DH Capital is a small and focused investment bank that acts as advisors, translators and guides for the growing number of data center finance and investment transactions.
But despite this masssive growth, Golding says that a lot of investors are not entirely enthusiastic about the industry.
Many commercial banks, private equity funds, and rating agencies have a negative outlook on hosting and data center industry, says Golding.
He explains this perspective has been shaped by the sour taste left by the .com bust of 2001, confusion around tough-to-understand technology, questions about impacts from related sectors of IT, and lack of cognizance about differences between enterprise data center and hosting/colocation.
The top issues facing the industry right now is the impact of iand cloud computing, supply and demand issues, real estate cycles, and facility obsolescence, according to Golding.
