(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — IT and business experience services provider BTR Associates (www.btrassociates.com) has selected Virtualization and automation software provider Parallels’ (www.parallels.com) operating system-level server virtualization software, Virtuozzo Containers, to help it deploy and manage its hosted virtual desktop offerings, which delivers machines on a network an operating system, applications and data on-demand from centrally managed servers.
Delivered on a month-to-month subscription basis, BTR Associates’ hosted virtual desktop solution, “A Better AppSM,” is designed to address most businesses’ core desktop computing needs. According to Parallel’s Thursday announcement, Parallels’ virtualization technology helps BTR offer hosting and cloud services providers a cost-effective way to maximize their IT infrastructure utilization by powering many end-user desktops on a single-server, and improving their manageability and time-to-market.
“The day-to-day maintenance, upgrading and troubleshooting of desktops has become overwhelming to our customers,” BTR Associates president and chief executive officer Bob Breitman said in a statement. “The advantage of a centralized desktop architecture is undeniable. Hosted virtual desktops simplify the management of the software needed for desktops and simultaneously deliver a cost-effective solution.”
Leveraging Parallels Containers, BTR Associates delivers each business its own server environment to run and access Microsoft Dynamics applications. Parallels Containers creates isolated virtual environments on a single server and OS instance to leverage and utilize hardware, software and management efforts with maximum efficiency.
Parallels service provider division president Jack Zubarev said cloud-delivered virtual desktops and applications is great for small and medium-sized businesses to compete against bigger players, who typically have a dedicated IT staff. “Parallels improves the manageability of desktop deployments, while ensuring cloud service providers like BTR Associates reap the cloud’s cost and flexibility benefits,” Zubarev said in a statement.
