October 19, 2001 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The Broadband Wireless Internet Forum (bwif.org) is seekingto involve government officials in the rollout of the next generation ofbroadband services. The member companies of BWIF support anonline-of-sight,high-speed wireless transmission system that deliversInternet, streaming video and audio, as well as voice.
“We feel that wireless broadband offers exceptional advantages over wiredand cable systems because it does not require digging up streets and majordisruptions in communities,” said Ender Ayanoglu, chairman of BWIF. “Forthat reason, we are anxious to include government officials at all levels inour plans to rollout these next generation systems.”
As a means of structuring a way to assure government input, BWIF created anew membership category for government agencies at its last meeting. State,local and federal government entities can join BWIF and participate in itsdiscussions and planning at no cost.
