BlackSun Announces Edmonton Indy Car Sponsorship

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — In a tried-and-true marketing move, Canadian Web hosting company BlackSun (www.blacksun.ca) will be sponsoring a car in the Honda Edmonton Indy event July 23 to 25.

According to its Thursday announcement, the race is expected to bring attendance of more than 100,000 visitors to the annual Edmonton event. The car sponsored by BlackSun belongs to Team Moore Racing (www.teammooreracing.com), which will be driven by either Canadian driver James Hinchcliffe or Adrian Campos, Jr.

“BlackSun is excited to be on the TMR car again this year,” BlackSun chief executive officer Steve Rogoschewsky said in a statement. “The race weekend will also be a re-branding of our ‘FAST, Reliable, Web Hosting’ slogan, in conjunction with the ‘accelerate your business’ initiatives that have recently been announced at BlackSun.”

Offering domains and a variety shared hosting plans, BlackSun likely seeks the attention of small and medium-sized businesses that are looking to establish an online presence, or offload their in-house infrastructure to an external hosting provider.

Indy sponsorship, in fact, has been a popular promotion for Web hosts — most notable among them being Go Daddy (www.godaddy.com). The Scottsdale, Arizona, Web host recently sponsored its third Indy 500. Additionally, its television spot aired during that race helped its Web traffic increase 163 percent during the broadcast, with another 570 percent peak appearing following the race.

In sponsoring the Edmonton Indy, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan-based BlackSun will be gaining exposure in the Western Canada hosting market. This complements BlackSun’s current marketing efforts that include, among other things, a relatively active YouTube channel that features videos of its quirky staff.
