UPDATE Oct. 4: In a press release, 8×8 said Black Lotus acquired the division for $3 million dollars.
Black Lotus has acquired the managed hosting division of 8×8 Inc., according to a blog post by Black Lotus president Jeffrey Lyon on Wednesday.
Lyon said that the acquisition gives it two new points of presence at Santa Clara, CA, and Ashburn, VA, and will grow its team and diversity of knowledge.
“We are eager to get to know our new customers and look forward to serving your critical business needs,” Lyon said. “We’ll begin by reaching out to each customer to learn about your requirements and seek opportunities to improve quality of service.”
Black Lotus provides DDoS mitigation services to service providers like OnApp, and enterprises, and offers hosting services as well in order to offer “native protection,” according to its website. It has wholly-owned data center located at One Wilshire in downtown Los Angeles.
Lyon said that Black Lotus plans to continue operating the new PoPs, and extend its network nationwide, in order to bring best in breed network infrastructure, additional capacity, and optional DDoS attack protection.
The core of 8×8’s business is its VoIP services. Earlier this year, 8×8 announced that its Virtual Office hosted PBX VoIP phone service supports HIPAA and HITECH compliant solutions.
