BitTorrents Site Reports Attacks

September 24, 2007 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — BitTorrents site Pirate Bay of Sweden (thepiratebay.org) announced on its blog Friday that it has reported to Swedish authorities of allegations that it has been hit with infrastructural sabotage, denial of service attacks, hacking and spamming by some of the biggest names in the media.

The company says it has alleged evidence in the form of some 6,000 emails and other information from the covert group, MediaDefender-Defenders (mediadefender-defenders.com), posted Saturday on BitTorrents sites.

MediaDefender-Defenders says it obtained the information from hacking emails from California’s MediaDefender (mediadefender.com), a firm that attempts to prevent illegal downloading of songs and movies on behalf of record labels and Hollywood film studios.

The Pirate Bay has been under considerable examination from MediaDefender and the entertainment industry because the Web site posts links to tracker files that can be used to download copyrighted movies for free.
