August 15, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — CollegeHumor (collegehumor.com), a subsidiary of website network IAC (iac.com), has selected content delivery network provider BitGravity (bitgravity.com) to deliver interactive content and video for the popular comedy website.
According to CollegeHumor’s announcement this week, the “student humor and co-ed pop culture” website will be using BitGravity’s high-definition, Tier 1 IPV6 CDN to deliver its content ranging from clever satire to raunch.
“Timing and delivery is everything in comedy, and we’re pleased to provide CollegeHumor viewers an unmatched user experience, including a quick start with no delay or buffering and HD quality video,” BitGravity chief executive officer Perry Wu said in a statement. “BitGravity’s delivery ensures that CollegeHumor users can view and share content at unparalleled speed and quality.”
Other reasons that weighed CollegeHumor’s decision were BitGravity’s scalability and pricing to support its growing content including image and video galleries attracting more than six million unique visitors per month.
Burlingame, California-based CDN provider BitGravity claims to be the first to deliver interactive broadcasting optimized to deliver HD-quality, on-demand video, live broadcasts and interactive applications for large audiences on the Internet.
In related CDN news, thousands of eyes are on NBC’s live, Olympic streaming efforts using Microsoft Silverlight technology (microsoft.com/silverlight) including internet performance testing firm Keynote (keynote.com) which has been monitoring the 2,200 hours of coverage as well as many other Olympic-related websites. After the Games have closed, Keynote’s assessment will help judge the strength of the first, massively streamed Olympics.
