December 11, 2008 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Telecommunications provider Bell Canada (www.bell.ca) announced on Thursday it has completed construction on three new data centers in Calgary, Toronto and Montreal in an effort to expand its National Hosting Services portfolio.
Bell says its NHS portfolio provides “managed data center infrastructure services” for mid- to enterprise-sized businesses to help them “ensure high availability, security and compliance of their critical information technology.”
The new Bell data centers will offer colocation hosting, managed hosting and a range of managed IT infrastructure services. The company says it has staffed its NHS team with experienced hosting technology and operations professionals.
APC by Schneider Electric is providing Bell with energy-efficient and scalable architecture for the new data centers.
The equipment will help customers “reduce their own environmental footprint and help meet their green objectives,” says Joseph Lo, vice president of customer experience and operations for small and medium businesses at Bell.
The two companies worked closely with one another to lay out a rack-based architecture that ensures high energy efficiency, integrating APC InfraStruXure power and cooling components.
The data centers include multiple MGE Galaxy UPS modules which isolate and protect against power quality disturbances for maximum uptime, as well as 150 kW InfraStruXure Power Distribution Units that enable the company to lower installation costs and increase scalability.
The equipment is housed in APC NetShelter SX rack enclosures, which feature cooling, power distribution, cable management and environmental monitoring.
“Bell’s long-standing position as an industry leader is based on one simple principle – everything we do revolves around our customers,” says Lo. “We understand the challenges involved in hosting and maintaining an environment and we channel all our experience and expertise into enabling our customers to succeed. In short, we deliver solutions that ensure high availability and security, while being cost effective.”
According to the press release, Bell is Canada’s largest communications company. The company offers a range of services, including telephone, wireless communications, high-speed Internet, digital television and voice over IP.
