Free Belgian Internet Exchange Launches
Verio Attracts Resellers with Free Month of VPS Hosting: Companies looking to boost revenues are finding Verio's Free VPS promotion the right fit for getting started as Hosting Reseller.
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) -- The Free Belgian Internet Exchange (freebix.com) said yesterday it would be open for business as of September 1st. The venture is designed to provide ISPs and hosting firms with more flexible exchange nodes to meet market needs.
Similar ventures have emerged in Holland, where NL-IX offers a low-cost peering alternative, and in France, where FreeIX was the world's first Internet exchange without monthly or yearly fees.
"With no recurring charge members can easily exchange traffic and optimize their network performances," the company said on its site. "FreeBIX wants to provide Belgian providers an alternative peering network for performance and redundancy reasons."
The company said the venture was made possible by several sponsors: Belgian co-location firm LCL (lcl.be) is providing colocation space and the cabling, RealROOT (realroot.com), a managed services firm, is providing management services and switches, and FirstLink Networks (firstlinknetworks.com), another Belgian co-location firm, is providing routing services.
