BCS Launches New Green IT Certification Program

(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — British IT organization BCS (www.bcs.org) announced on Monday it has launched a new green IT qualification (www.bcs.org/greenit) designed to help IT professionals and corporations gain an in-depth understanding of the environmental issues surrounding IT.

After a successful three month test run in the UK with learning services provider QA, BCS’s Foundation Certificate in Green IT is gaining popularity with IT professionals around the world, says the organization.

BCS announced it has signed an agreement with iSQI to deliver a number of BCS qualifications including Green IT in German, English and Spanish.

In addition, BCS announced it plans to pilot its latest qualification for IT professionals, the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centre Operators Practitioner Certificate.

The qualification strives to set an international standard for IT professionals in understanding energy efficiency irrespective of what discipline they practice within the industry.

It will support the delivery and implementation of the EU Code of Conduct for data center operators with a focus on improved energy efficiencies.

The qualification hopes to join the ranks of other standards for energy efficient, such as LEED in North America, the BREEAMM in the UK, Green Star in Australia, and HQE in France.

“The Foundation and Practitioner Certificates, along with the expertise our Data Centre Group in this area, are examples of how BCS is addressing critical issues facing users, industry and society,” says David Clarke, CEO of BCS. “The international interest in these qualifications is an indication that this is truly a global issue and in addition, it is praise for all those involved in this area of our work.”

The Foundation is a three day course that instructs candidates on the importance of IT when trying to achieve an organization’s green objective, how to identify their own green IT requirements and how to address them.

It provides an understanding of the regulations, legislation and policies, carbon energy accounting and how to create a green IT strategy, as well as cover business benefits, end to end costing, emissions and energy efficiencies, procurement, lifecycle and disposal planning as well as managing stakeholder relationships and behaviours.
