(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — The Baltimore Technology Park (www.baltimoretechnologypark.com) announced on Tuesday it is building a $5 million expansion that will provide 7,000 square feet of additional space, bringing its to total to 37,000 square feet.
Set for completion in April, the expansion will also all the facility to support up to 6MW of power.
Converted from a one-story former whiskey warehouse, the technology park opened on Russell Street five years ago.
The data center has several dozen customers, including law firms, educational institutions, and health care providers.
The company say the expansion is required to meet the demand in the area for secure and reliable data center services.
The data center can also accomodate organizations that are looking to consolidate data centers as a result of mergers, acquisitions and downsizing, says the company.
For the expansion, BTP chose construction management and general construction firm Plano-Coudon, while all the electrical work will be done by Brown and Heim.
Baltimore Gas and Electric will upgrade the commercial power by bringing in additional feeds, as well as uninterruptible power supplies and generators.
