Inside CoreSite's Los Angeles data center, now connected to AWS Direct Connect
(WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — Cloud provider Amazon Web Services announced on Tuesday that it has expanded its AWS Direct Connect to LA, Tokyo, Singapore, and London through CoreSite, Equinix and Telecity data centers, respectively.
Amazon launched AWS Direct Connect in August 2011 for users to establish a dedicated network connection between AWS and a data center, office or colocation environment. It can reduce network costs, increase bandwidth throughput and provide a more consistent and reliable network, according to its website.
CoreSite says its customers can access AWS Direct Connect via a standard, single-mode 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps Ethernet cross-connection or Any2 Internet exchange connection. It can be ordered through MyCoreSite online customer portal.
“CoreSite is pleased to be the first data center provider in Los Angeles to provide direct, on-site access to one of the world’s largest cloud offerings in Amazon Web Services,” Chris Bair, senior vice president of sales at CoreSite said in a statement. “CoreSite’s cloud computing data center ecosystems continue to demonstrate strong growth and increased value to our customer base, with access to cloud offerings of all sizes a simple cross-connect away.”
The expansion to Equinix Asia-Pacific addresses increasing customer demand for a direct connection into the AWS cloud. AWS Direct Connect was previously only available to Equinix customers through its Ashburn, Virginia data center campus. Since its launch, AWS Direct Connect has expanded to Equinix locations in Silicon Valley and now Tokyo and Singapore Equinix International Business Exchange data centers.
According to Equinix, Carpathia Hosting is using AWS Direct Connect to allow its customers to use a hybrid of Amazon cloud infrastructure with Carpathia’s fully managed hosting solution.
“More and more of our enterprise customers are demanding hybrid hosting solutions that combine the benefits of both dedicated infrastructure and cloud infrastructure,” Jon Greaves, CTO of Carpathia Hosting said in a statement. “For existing AWS customers, Carpathia Hosting uses AWS Direct Connect to deliver them the benefits of having their dedicated infrastructure and AWS’s cloud services managed by a single provider.”
AWS Dublin data center will be connected to Telecity‘s Sovereign House in London so customers can take advantage of AWS Direct Connect in the UK.
