Australian Antispam Law Working

July 27, 2004 — (WEB HOST INDUSTRY REVIEW) — According to reports, Australia’s 2003 Spam Act has had a significant impact on the fight against spam in Australia, as monitoring bodies recently identified a number of notable bulk spammers that have halted operations in Australia since the new law went into effect last April.

The Australian Communications Authority (aca.gov.au) enforces the Act’s laws, which levies heavy fines against offenders. Repeat offenders face a possible prosecution penalty of $1.1 million Australian dollars per day, the equivalent of US $786,500.
